Cyclades, Crete, Corfu or Rhodes: choose suitable islands, allocate complete nights and compare ferries, seasons and trip costs.

Editorial introduction
Choose an island group and keep full days ashore
The Cyclades suit selected ferry legs between Naxos, Paros and Santorini. Crete supports its own land-based journey with several possible bases. Corfu in the Ionian Sea and Rhodes in the Dodecanese require different arrival choices. Our plans count every night, including the Athens buffer, so ten travel days are not mistaken for ten complete beach days.

Choose the island group for the trip
For Cyclades island hopping, compare Naxos and Paros as a longer stay with a shorter Santorini phase. Milos, a Kleftiko boat day and optional Kimolos form another island block to substitute rather than add on top.
Crete combines longer land journeys with Chania, Heraklion and possibly the east. Corfu mixes town and green coastal scenery in the Ionian Sea. Rhodes combines a medieval old town, Lindos and beach days in the Dodecanese. Calling them all island hopping does not turn these regions into one short circuit.
Alex: full days before more islands
For this Athens-based Cyclades plan, I would choose one island in seven days, two in ten and at most three in fourteen. More nights at one base leave time for beaches, villages and a weather buffer. Athens nights before and after the island section count toward the trip duration.
Routes with every night counted
- 7 days/6 nights: Athens 1, Naxos 4, Athens 1. Three full Naxos days.
- 10 days/9 nights: Athens 1, Naxos 4, Santorini 3, Athens 1. Three full Naxos days and two full Santorini days.
- 14 days/13 nights: Athens 1, Paros 4, Naxos 4, Santorini 3, Athens 1. Each extra island receives several nights.
These are editorial plans and require suitable ferries for the actual dates. The itinerary guide allocates transfer days too.
Check ferries, season and costs together
Piraeus is not Rafina, and Athinios is not the old port below Fira. The ferry guide explains the landings and door-to-door journeys. A faster ship does not remove the need for connection time.
The season guide compares May, summer and September without promising low prices or calm seas. The budget guide calculates nine room nights, three ferry legs and ten food days for two adults. Its example totals EUR 2,680 jointly, excluding international flights and major extras; every price is a hypothetical calculation input.
Where to start
For island choice, read Naxos and Paros and Santorini. For a different landscape or arrival, compare Crete, Corfu and Rhodes. Milos and Kimolos offer a separate boat-and-coast block.
After choosing, save the actual quays, room addresses, bookings and shared costs, for example in WanderSpend. This keeps the right service and meeting point clear on transfer days.

Island-choice questions
Which islands fit into a week?+
Our seven-day Athens-return trip has four Naxos nights with one Athens night before and after. A direct island flight may suit a different single-island trip.
Why not add Crete to three Cycladic islands?+
Crete needs its own land journeys and bases. A separate five- to ten-day trip suits it better than a short fourth-island stop.
Naxos or Paros with children?+
First assess Chora/Agios Georgios on Naxos for short town and beach journeys. On Paros, travel depends on choosing Parikia, Naoussa or a beach location.
Is Milos a hidden gem?+
No. Sarakiniko and Kleftiko are well-known destinations. The guide separates a land visit, boat day and optional Kimolos excursion.
What does the ten-day route cost?+
The transparent example for two adults totals EUR 2,680 jointly or EUR 1,340 each. These are hypothetical prices excluding international flights, major boat tours and personal extras.
Does every island need a rental car?+
No. Town and beach location, bus services and selected excursions determine the need. Renting for particular days can make more sense than carrying a car on ferries.
Is September always better than May?+
Not for every trip. September can favor swimming, May longer land visits. Check prices, services and local conditions separately.
