Okinawa Islands Highlights

Choose the main island, Kerama, Miyako or Yaeyama around free days, ferry access and accommodation, with concrete five-, seven- and ten-day routes.

Illustrative Okinawa scene with a beach, shallow water and green islands; not a verified view of a particular swimming spot.

Editorial introduction

Give one island group the full days

The main island combines Naha with a coastal base in Onna or Motobu. Kerama starts at Tomari ferry port and needs suitable beach transfers on Zamami or Tokashiki. Miyako suits one hotel with bridge outings by car; Ishigaki is the starting point for Taketomi and a carefully selected Iriomote outing. Choose which trip you want first. Then allocate Naha nights, rental days and return time before the onward flight.

Okinawa Islands Itinerary: 5, 7 and 10 Days

Essential

These routes count arrival and departure: five days mean four nights, seven mean six and ten mean nine. The short trip stays on the main island, the middle option chooses Kerama and the longer one Ishigaki or Miyako.

Book actual flights and island nights first, then matching ferries and rental days. Naha, Kerama, Miyako and Yaeyama need different connections; a shared regional name does not provide a transfer plan.

Choose the main island, Kerama or an island flight first

Five days cover Naha and one coastal base. Seven give Kerama two nights with Naha before and afterwards. In ten days, a main-island section can lead into four nights on Ishigaki or Miyako. These are alternatives: combining them does not preserve the same short itinerary.

Start with nights and connections

The itinerary counts every night and travel day. Then read Kerama for beach transfers or Ishigaki and Yaeyama for the correct Iriomote port. The logistics guide explains airports, licences and cost units.

Weather affects the return as well

The official climate overview places the usual rainy season from mid-May to late June. Plan swimming around that day’s conditions and stay in touch with accommodation during ferry trips. Tokashiki Village publishes operator and connection information; a photograph of a calm coast cannot replace those checks.

Travel planning answers

Questions before choosing an island

Are five days enough?+

Yes, for Naha and Onna or Motobu over four nights. This route omits Kerama.

Miyako or Ishigaki?+

Miyako for beach and bridge outings from one base; Ishigaki for Kabira, Taketomi and a suitable Iriomote outing. Four nights provide three full days in either place.

Can Kerama work without a car?+

Yes, with confirmed land transfers. Tokashiki’s bus serves Aharen, not Tokashiku. On Zamami, check the appropriate bus or accommodation pickup.

Does one extra night protect against ferry cancellation?+

It reduces tight connections but cannot guarantee a return during several days of disruption. Check the vessel, operator and current notice individually.
