Separate three transport networks
Kerama is planned by boat from Tomari in Naha; Yaeyama outings start at Ishigaki’s port. Miyako has two different air destinations, Miyako Airport and Miyako Shimojishima Airport. Check an actual domestic flight to the selected island group rather than assuming a convenient regular ferry links all groups. Hotel, airport and ferry port are separate points in the day’s plan.
One return night does not solve every disruption
Schedule the return from a smaller island before the day of an important flight and stay at the appropriate departure location. Disruption can still last several days. Check the booked vessel individually: a fast boat and larger ferry may operate differently on the same day. After changes, the return ticket, outing, accommodation and any replacement transfer must still fit together; rebooking the outward sailing alone does not repair the trip.
Check licence rules and cost units
JAF’s requirements depend on where the driving licence was issued. For licences issued in Germany or Switzerland, for example, the original with an accepted Japanese translation is relevant; do not assume an international driving permit works universally. Check validity and requirements with JAF and the rental company. Count flights and ferries per person, rooms per night and cars per vehicle-day. Add parking, fuel, baggage, tours and a reserve for changed return arrangements separately.
