Orientation

Ishigaki: treat Kabira as a viewing stop

Four Ishigaki nights provide three full days for Ishigaki itself, Taketomi and an optional booked Iriomote outing. A separate Iriomote hotel belongs to a longer version, not an extra stop squeezed in.

JPY bands are rough planning estimates per person per day for two adults sharing a room, including food and local travel. Price flights, ferries, guided marine outings and major admissions separately; holiday and resort prices can differ substantially.

Alex's Take

With two ferry days I would stay within practical reach of the port and rent a car only for the Ishigaki day. A resort far from the harbour changes every early tour start.

Planning notes

Avoid These Common Mistakes

Add another island

For beach days without ferry planning, compare a single Miyako base instead of scheduling three Yaeyama islands.

Overlook the land transfer

For Iriomote, ask the specific operator about minimum ages, boating, walking, equipment and toilets. A mangrove outing and a waterfall trail are different family activities.

Guide details

Ishigaki: treat Kabira as a viewing stop

Kabira Bay offers views and glass-bottom boats; swimming is prohibited there. A Kabira visit therefore does not constitute a swimming day. A rental car can help with an island circuit but need not sit paid and unused through two ferry days. Compare collection, return and hotel parking against the actual programme.

Taketomi: visit the village without another hotel move

The ferry leaves from Ishigaki. Taketomi village is not immediately beside the pier: official visitor information gives roughly a 15-minute walk. Allow for the exposed approach in warm weather with water and sun protection, or check an available transfer. Choose a village walk and one suitable additional stop rather than trying to cover every coast. Respect private property and return to the pier before the booked sailing.

Iriomote: book the outing and correct port together

Uehara serves the north and Ohara the south. Their ferry tickets are not interchangeable. Confirm the port, meeting place and disruption procedure with the tour operator. Protected areas such as Pinaisara have specific access and guiding rules; book an appropriately registered nature guide and confirm the required permission. This does not mean every public place on the island requires a tour. If no suitable outing is available, spend the day on Ishigaki.
