Greek islands budget: calculate a ten-day trip

The basis: two adults, ten days, nine nights

The example route is Athens–Naxos–Santorini–Athens. One Athens night precedes the first ferry and one precedes the return flight, with four Naxos nights and three Santorini nights between them. That makes nine nights and ten travel days, with two adults sharing one room.

Every price below is a hypothetical calculation input, not a researched offer for a specific date. The example exposes the scope so you can replace the inputs with actual booking prices.

Add rooms, ferries, meals and visits

• Athens: 2 room nights × EUR 120 = EUR 240.
• Naxos: 4 room nights × EUR 120 = EUR 480.
• Santorini: 3 room nights × EUR 220 = EUR 660.
• Food for both: 10 days × EUR 70 = EUR 700.
• Ferries: 3 legs × 2 adults × assumed EUR 60 = EUR 360. Actual legs can cost different amounts.
• Land transfers and buses: assumed EUR 160 jointly.
• Admission: assumed EUR 80 jointly.

Total: EUR 2,680 for two adults. That is EUR 1,340 per person for the trip, or EUR 134 per person per travel day. Divide the EUR 1,380 accommodation total by room occupancy rather than charging it again per person.

International flights, extra pre-stays, rental cars, major boat tours, travel insurance and personal shopping are excluded. Add a freely available contingency separately; it is not an expense already paid.

Which decisions change the total

A Santorini room at an assumed EUR 140 rather than EUR 220 saves EUR 240 jointly across three nights. Its location may require more transfers, however. Account for those before treating the lower room price as a net saving.

Another island change can require extra ferry tickets and two harbor journeys. If the island replaces existing nights, do not add new room nights as well. A rental-car trip on Crete changes ferry costs, rental days and fuel; this Cyclades calculation cannot simply be copied across.

Compare complete offers

For ferries, check the date, ship, seat class, cabin, vehicle and change conditions. Compare a flight including baggage and both airport transfers, rather than its displayed starting fare. Use the ferry guide and the actual operator’s sale.

For rooms, include taxes or separate accommodation charges, breakfast, cancellation conditions and real occupancy in the final price. Solo travelers lose the room-cost split; families need their actual family-room booking and applicable age categories.
