Orientation
Choose the trip that fits
Corfu Town is the base for lanes, squares and culture. Daily beach access calls for a specific coastal location instead. Paleokastritsa’s coves and Glyfada’s long sandy beach offer different experiences.
Five nights suit one base or a deliberate split of two town nights and three coastal nights. Paxos adds a separate crossing rather than being compulsory on every Corfu trip.

I would plan a first visit with two nights in town and three on one chosen coast. With only four nights, I would keep one base and visit the other area during the day.

Planning notes
Avoid These Common Mistakes
Calling the whole island quiet
Corfu Town, resorts and popular coves can be busy; assess the actual location.
Booking the old town as a beach base
Town evenings and direct sandy-beach access are different accommodation goals.
Putting Paxos on departure morning
Boats and weather can change; remain on Corfu for the last day before a flight.
Travel planning answers
Planning questions
Do I need a rental car?+
Not throughout a Corfu Town stay. The municipality lists buses to Glyfada and Paleokastritsa; check return services. A car helps with scattered destinations but adds parking work in town.
Paleokastritsa or Glyfada?+
Paleokastritsa suits coves and cliff scenery. Glyfada suits a longer sandy beach with facilities. Water depth and shelter are not identical in every cove.
How many Paxos nights?+
For an island stay, our planning suggestion is two or three additional nights. One further Corfu night before flying avoids a same-day ferry-to-flight connection.
Can I connect all the Ionian Islands?+
Not sensibly within a short Corfu week. Kefalonia and Lefkada need their own arrival and overnight plan; proximity on a map is not a timetable.
Worth it / Skip if
Worth it
When old-town visits and green coastal scenery matter more than another ferry hop within the Cyclades.
Skip if
Corfu is not a quick addition to Naxos or Santorini; it requires a different approach rather than a neighboring-island hop.
With kids
Glyfada has sand and facilities; Paleokastritsa has several distinct coves. Check waves, water depth and the route from your room at the actual beach section.

Guide details
Corfu Town for lanes and culture
Choose Corfu Town when you want to walk through the old town and squares in the evening. A full town day can combine the lanes around Liston and Spianada with one selected museum or fortress visit. Check its admission separately and build in a summer midday break.
A useful room needs a workable luggage drop-off as well as an appealing address. Keeping a rental car on every old-town day adds parking searches; include the actual parking arrangement in the accommodation comparison.
Paleokastritsa or Glyfada
Paleokastritsa has several coves beneath green slopes. The municipality identifies Agios Spyridon as the central beach and Alypa as a neighboring small harbor. Depth and entry differ between coves; “family-friendly” does not describe the whole coastline.
Glyfada is the alternative for a longer sandy beach with loungers, showers and food options. Choose accommodation from its real beach access. A hillside sea view can be less convenient with a pram than a simpler room nearer the water.
Municipal information for Glyfada and Paleokastritsa lists bus connections. Check dated return services before deciding against a car. Choose one coastal direction each day rather than a complete island circuit.
Five nights on Corfu
Our suggestion uses six travel days and five nights: two in Corfu Town, then three around Paleokastritsa or Glyfada. Day one is arrival, day two town exploration, day three the base move, days four and five beach time and one excursion, and day six departure.
For four nights, one base is more practical. Six nights add a free day at the same location. Check-in, luggage and longer drives take time away from a beach day.
Add Paxos separately
Paxos is a specific extension for a stay around Gaios, with its own crossing and room. Distinguish a sightseeing cruise with several photo stops from a scheduled service allowing an independent island stay. Use the meeting point, destination port and return specified in your booking.
Two or three Paxos nights plus a final Corfu night need three or four additional nights. The last Corfu night comes before the flight. Kefalonia and Lefkada are different trip choices, not more automatic short stops.
Costs and onward planning
For this version, calculate five room nights, six days of food, land transfers and the car days actually needed. Add a boat or Paxos excursion separately. Check whether a beach hotel includes loungers and breakfast rather than assuming a standard island price.
The island-hopping guide explains the difference from a Cyclades route. Use the ferry guide for arrival and departure buffers.
