Orientation
How to use this guide
For seven days with children, Bergen and one fjord base are enough: two Bergen nights, three Flåm/Aurland and one Bergen. A full day in the same place matters more than another viewpoint.
I would stay between Bergen and Flåm when naps or short walks matter. Geiranger and Trollstigen are omitted from this short family trip.
Budget bands: rough EUR estimates per person per day for two adults sharing a room and car, with meals and fuel. Price flights, tolls, ferries and booked activities separately; these are not available offers.

Planning notes
Avoid These Common Mistakes
Extend beyond the intended travel block
With limited driving confidence, travel sickness or frequent sleep needs, do not add northern mountain roads spontaneously.
Overlook the specific access arrangements
The individual child determines distance and daily scope: a stroller circuit, hands-on museum and longer hike are different programmes.

Guide details
Seven days with one fjord base
Day 1 is Bergen arrival and day 2 the only full city day. Day 3 transfers to Flåm or Aurland, where you stay three nights. Days 4–5 have no accommodation change. Return to Bergen on day 6 for the last night and depart on day 7.
For ten days, split three extra nights between Bergen and the same fjord base: Bergen three, Flåm/Aurland five, Bergen one. This creates more free days without further long connections. Northern fjord country is a different route, not a requirement for a varied family trip.
With a stroller: keep Fløyen short
The operator lists a roughly 400-metre gravel path from the Fløibanen upper station to Skomakerdiket, suitable for strollers and about 10–15 minutes each way. Add the return, food and a play break; the lake is not an unsupervised play area. This does not also assess a long hike to another mountain. In poor visibility, keep the stay short or choose a completely different day plan.
For curious school-age children: VilVite
The science centre at Marineholmen has hands-on exhibits and changing programmes. Give it its own half day and check age suitability; the operator designs its science shows for families with children aged six and over. With younger children, adapt the stay to suitable exhibition areas. Rain makes this a possible alternative, but does not guarantee opening or ticket availability.
A boat day without a tight connection
For Flåm–Gudvangen, the confirmed return bus belongs in the booking. Plan it together with a meal and the accommodation-to-pier journeys. Check stroller access for the actual vessel; replacement ships may have different facilities. Your car remains at the starting point.
Build the family budget from a room or apartment per night, a car per actual billed day and each person’s genuine fare. The displayed two-adult bands are not a family package. Drying facilities and straightforward meals may matter more than an extra panoramic balcony.
Save the plan
WanderSpend helps keep route days, fjord stops, bookings, documents, notes, shared expenses and offline details in one private trip space before the signal gets weak or the weather changes the day.
