I would first remove an unnecessary hotel move. It can add parking, luggage time and another driving day without meaningfully reducing the room rate.

What do the budget bands mean?
The bands are editorial allowances per adult per calendar day for two sharing a double room and car. They include accommodation, food, local transport and selected admissions, excluding arrival travel and substantial private tours. They are not current market prices. Solo travelers carry room and car costs differently; families need a separate group calculation.
A complete worked example
For 7 days, 6 nights and 2 adults, choose hypothetical inputs: six room-nights at 100 EUR total 600 EUR; four car days at 40 EUR total 160 EUR; fuel and parking together 70 EUR; food for both at 60 EUR across seven days totals 420 EUR; activities together 100 EUR. That makes 1,350 EUR, approximately 96 EUR per person per calendar day, excluding arrival travel. Add tolls, special transfers and extras where applicable.
These figures only make the arithmetic visible. Replace them with real quotes before booking and check whether breakfast, parking or a tasting is already included in the room price. A deposit ties up money and needs an available balance, but is not automatically a final travel expense.
Where can you save usefully?
Two Porto days without a car may reduce rental and garage spending. Compare whole contracts, since prices do not always fall evenly by day. In the Douro, dinner at the accommodation can remove a separate transfer; a cheap remote quinta can create that cost instead.
Tolls depend on the route and are separate from a possible rental service fee. Some motorway sections became toll-free, others did not. The driving guide identifies the checked sections and official calculator.
Shared spending
Split rooms, cars and groceries according to agreed use. Personal admissions and wine orders do not automatically need equal sharing. For tastings, a non-drinking driver or return transfer belongs in the plan, not in the leftover evening budget. WanderSpend can keep actual group costs alongside individual spending.
The itinerary supplies 4, 6 or 9 paid nights as a starting point.
