Orientation

Seven days: Munich, Königssee and Salzburg

Choose the direction first: a short journey east of Munich or a longer trip through Füssen and Tyrol. Arrival and departure count towards the stated days.

Budget bands are rough editorial base costs per person per day for two adults sharing a room, including meals and a vehicle or local transport. Flights, mountain railways, boats, admission and special tolls are extra.

Alex's Take

For seven days I would omit Füssen and Tyrol. That protects a full Königssee day without turning Salzburg into just a bed for the night.

Resolve before booking

The examples finish in Salzburg. Flying out of Munich adds a final journey that must not disappear inside the departure day.

Travel planning answers

Planning questions

How much time does this plan need?+

The short route needs six nights; ten days need nine and fourteen need thirteen. Compare one-way rental or a return journey separately.

When should I shorten the plan?+

For an early final flight from Munich, move the last night there and shorten another stay.

What matters with children?+

Do not divide seven nights between seven hotels. Two nights in one place provide only one full outing day.

Guide details

Seven days: Munich, Königssee and Salzburg

Stay in Munich for nights 1–2. Travel to Berchtesgaden on day 3 and stay for nights 3–4, with day 4 at the lake. Move to Salzburg on day 5 for nights 5–6; day 6 belongs to the city. Depart on day 7. Füssen, Hallstatt and Innsbruck are excluded.

Ten days: add western Bavaria

After Munich, allow two nights each in Füssen and Garmisch. A castle day and a mountain or lake day then sit between transfers. Two Berchtesgaden nights protect Königssee; the final night is Salzburg. For a full Salzburg day, remove a night elsewhere or extend the trip.

Fourteen days: give Tyrol a real stay

Three Innsbruck nights fit after Garmisch and before Berchtesgaden. Two Salzburg nights preserve a final city day. Hallstatt is still not an automatic extra: replace another outing or lengthen Salzburg. For a rental car, compare permission to enter Austria, one-way charges and return opening hours.
