Orientation
Plan your stay
Kaleiçi suits a city stay built around Hadrian’s Gate, old lanes and the historic harbour. Staying here does not put a broad sandy beach outside your room. Konyaaltı and Lara solve different accommodation needs.
Two nights leave one full day. Three nights give you a second day for Perge or a longer beach visit before continuing along the coast.

For a first visit, I would book two nights in or beside Kaleiçi and collect the rental car when leaving. If swimming is the priority, choose the hotel by its actual beach access first.

Planning notes
Avoid These Common Mistakes
Assuming an old-town hotel is a beach hotel
Kaleiçi sits above the harbour; the small harbour area is not a long sandy beach.
Choosing the wrong Düden waterfall
Save Lower Düden near Lara for the waterfall that drops into the sea.
Combining every ruin
Perge is a dedicated excursion east of town; Phaselis fits the onward coast road toward Kemer.
Travel planning answers
Planning questions
Kaleiçi or Konyaaltı?+
Choose Kaleiçi for old-town evenings on foot, or Konyaaltı for the long pebble beach and promenade.
Is Lara sandy?+
The public Lara beach is a sandy option east of the centre. Check whether a hotel means this beach or a more distant resort section.
How many nights?+
Two nights give one full day, and three nights give two. Arrival and departure are additional travel days.
Do I need a car on arrival?+
Not for Kaleiçi itself. Ask about permitted access, luggage drop-off and parking; collecting a car for the onward journey may be simpler.
Which ancient site should I choose?+
Perge works as a focused excursion from Antalya. Phaselis lies southwest toward Kemer and fits an onward coastal journey.
Worth it / Skip if
Worth it
For historic city time paired with one deliberately chosen urban beach.
Skip if
You want only a small swimming cove and no city day.
With kids
Kaleiçi includes slopes and uneven lanes. Check shade, beach surface and the actual water entry at Konyaaltı or Lara before choosing a family beach day.

Guide details
Give Kaleiçi a full city day
Walk from Hadrian’s Gate through the old town to the historic harbour, then use Karaalioğlu Park for a break overlooking the sea. These stops make a coherent city visit. A harbour boat trip is an extra activity, not a necessary connection between them.
A hotel among the lanes is useful for evening walks but may complicate unloading. Ask for the permitted vehicle access point and the luggage route. Parking listed in an accommodation description need not mean a space outside the door.
Choose Konyaaltı or Lara
Konyaaltı lies west of the centre and has a long pebble beach. Lara lies east and is the sandy alternative. Identify the public entrance or the beach section included with your room: accommodation listings use “Lara” for more than one precise place.
Choose one beach for an afternoon. Crossing from Konyaaltı to Lara adds another journey through the city. Lower Düden near Lara can be a separate land visit: this is the waterfall that meets the sea, distinct from Upper Düden inland. The official Antalya guide identifies the coastal waterfall.
Two nights, or an extra archaeology day
Arrive on day 1, combine the old town with one beach on day 2 and leave on day 3. That uses two nights. Add a third night to visit Perge on day 3 and depart on day 4. Allow a proper excursion block for travel, the site and a break; do not squeeze exposed ruins between fixed appointments at the hottest time of day.
Phaselis is in the opposite direction, on the coast near Kemer. Consider it during the onward journey toward Çıralı and Kaş rather than adding it to Perge. Check the relevant museum’s opening and admission details for your date.
Compare room costs with daily journeys
The daily ranges above are broad editorial planning allowances per person for two adults sharing a room and ground transport. They are not surveyed current prices. They cover accommodation, food and local journeys; flights, a private boat trip and special admissions are extra. A solo traveller cannot halve the room bill.
Start with the total room price and the journeys it creates. A cheaper property far from your chosen beach can mean daily taxi costs. Save the hotel access point, beach entrance and onward pickup location together.
