Worth it when the park day fits the route naturally and you book or time it with crowd pressure in mind.

Skip forcing both parks into a short coastal trip if it means losing island or city breathing room.

Guide details

Choose Krka for a park day from Šibenik on a Dalmatian trip. Choose Plitvice when your approach crosses the northern interior and you can stay nearby. Visiting both on the same day leaves little time for the paths you are paying to explore.

Plitvice: choose entrance and programme together

Entrance 1 suits the Lower Lakes and Great Waterfall. The official circuits list Programme B at four kilometres and three to four hours, including boat and panoramic vehicle sections. Programme C covers eight kilometres and four to six hours, including both Lower and Upper Lakes. These operator estimates exclude your approach, admission queues, waiting and personal breaks.

B is the shorter first-visit choice; C requires more walking time. A ticket for Entrance 2 should match an open programme beginning there, not an unchecked circuit from Entrance 1. Choose date, entrance and admission time together. Boat and vehicle operation and open paths determine the circuit actually possible.

Two nights near the park provide a full visit day without a long onward drive. One night beforehand can work if the post-visit drive is short. From Split or Dubrovnik, Plitvice is a separate travel section rather than a minor coastal detour.

Krka: Skradin or Lozovac

Skradin and Lozovac are the main access choices for Skradinski buk. Skradin combines the town with a seasonal park boat; Lozovac uses the park bus or designated walking approach. The official 2026 conditions list 1 April–31 October for the included Skradin–Skradinski buk boat and Lozovac–Skradinski buk bus transfers. Also check daily operation and the last return.

Allow half a day as a personal planning estimate for Skradinski buk, including access, boardwalks and pauses. Adding Visovac or Roški slap means a different excursion, additional time and potentially another ticket. The short waterfall circuit does not cover the entire park.

Separate waterfall walks from swimming

The Plitvice rules prohibit swimming in lakes and watercourses. Swimming is also prohibited at Skradinski buk. The Krka FAQ permits it only in designated areas at Roški slap, Stinice and Pisak from 1 June to 30 September, subject to weather and water levels. Old swimming photographs at the main waterfall are not valid visitor guidance.

Children and limited walking ability

Narrow boardwalks, steps, wet surfaces and waiting matter more than an “easy park” label. Choose a shorter open circuit appropriate to your group’s walking ability; a stroller is not a reliable solution for every section. Budget entry, parking, access and food together. With three nights in Šibenik, Krka fits as a separate excursion day without changing hotels.

Budget bands are per adult for two sharing a room, including food, local transport and selected admissions, excluding arrival travel. They are editorial allowances; price ferries, rental cars and major activities for the actual itinerary.
