Oudtshoorn and the Klein Karoo bring a different landscape into a coastal trip. Include the diversion for a named priority such as Cango Caves rather than just because a touring map lists it.
One night allows the approach and a principal outing. For the caves plus an extended pass drive, I would allow two nights; on a short Garden Route trip, replace a coastal block to make room.
For a short stay, the caves would be my clear priority. I would treat Swartberg as a separate outing once access and vehicle suitability are established, rather than driving the pass before a fixed tour slot.

When the inland diversion earns its place
Oudtshoorn is an inland diversion. It earns its place when the Klein Karoo or Cango Caves are a specific priority. On a short coastal trip, replace another block or add a night to include it.
Book the appropriate Cango Caves tour
Check the Cango Caves booking page for the Heritage or Adventure tour offered on your date and its requirements. Choose the slot before fixing the approach. Booking a tour does not automatically provide unrestricted access to every cave area.
Separate the caves and Swartberg outings
A cave tour and a mountain-pass drive are different outings. Swartberg needs its own check of road conditions, vehicle suitability and rental permission. Do not automatically build that drive around a fixed cave booking. With little time, I would choose one priority.
