Lagos old town

A first walk connects Praça Infante Dom Henrique, the lanes around Santo António and the waterfront by Forte da Ponta da Bandeira. This makes a manageable arrival outing. For interiors, choose the museum with Santo António church or another focused visit, checking current opening and admission separately.

Mercado de Escravos addresses Lagos' historical role in the trade in enslaved people. It offers historical context rather than an ordinary market-shopping stop. Visit Portugal outlines the monuments and station location. The station is on the marina side; the pedestrian connection leads into the old town, not directly to the southern cliff beaches.

Ponta da Piedade

First choose between views from above and a visit from the water. The municipal walking overview describes boardwalks and viewpoints around the lighthouse. Pick a suitable upper section and keep to open paths. One or two hours on site is an editorial allowance for a first visit, excluding a longer walk from the old town.

The steep steps down towards the water add a descent and a later climb. They are unnecessary for upper views and do not guarantee a boat will be waiting below. A booked tour may start at an entirely different berth in Lagos. Check the exact meeting point, lifejackets, age requirements and rough-sea cancellation policy.

Camilo, Dona Ana or more beach space?

Praia do Camilo is a small bay with a long stair approach. Praia Dona Ana is another cliff-backed bay, which does not make it automatically step-free or easier for every family. At either beach, check whether the current descent and return climb suit your group.

If sand space and a carefully selected entrance matter more than narrow rock bays, consider Meia Praia. It lies across the river mouth, so choose an actual access point rather than a random map pin. How long to stay and where to sleep

Two nights provide one full day: Ponta da Piedade in the morning, lunch in Lagos and one beach later if conditions suit. Three nights add a second full day for Sagres OR more beach time. Avoid squeezing a boat outing and a long west-coast excursion into the same short block.

The old-town edge suits walking to dinner. The marina side helps with the station and some boat meeting points; southern beach accommodation means different journeys into town. Check parking and night noise for the exact address. Budget a boat tour separately from beach time and compare per-person totals rather than headline starting prices.
