Orientation

Choose Robberg by circuit rather than photograph

Plettenberg Bay works as a base when you want a distinct walking day and a relaxed coastal day. Robberg requires a deliberate route choice: not every circuit is a short viewpoint stroll.

Two nights give you a free day. Three nights leave additional room for rest or changing weather without having to drive on the same day.

Alex Travels
Alex's Take

I would choose a walk that suits the group and leave plenty of room before the next fixed commitment. The longest circuit is not compulsory for a worthwhile Robberg visit.

Mini itinerary

  1. 1Arrive and stay two or three nights in Plettenberg Bay.
  2. 2Give Robberg its own day and select a suitable circuit.
  3. 3Leave another day for beaches, short outings or weather flexibility.

Planning notes

Avoid These Common Mistakes

Comparing only the distance

Gap, Witsand and Point require different levels of stamina. Good beach weather alone does not settle the Point decision.

Arriving with cash only

Robberg has been one of CapeNature’s cashless reserves since February 2026. Prepare card payment or book ahead.

Choosing the full circuit before a long drive

Give the walk its own day and allow return time. Strong wind is a reason to shorten or postpone it.

Travel planning answers

Planning Plettenberg Bay and Robberg

How many nights make sense?+

Two nights leave a full day for Robberg. Three give you an additional coastal or weather day.

Do I need the full Robberg circuit?+

No. The circuits vary in length; choose according to walking ability and conditions. The longest option is not a necessary introduction.

Where should I check entry and opening?+

With CapeNature directly. Check current visitor notices and admission for your day before driving to the peninsula.

Worth it / Skip if

Worth it

For two or three nights in Plettenberg Bay when you want to combine a Robberg walking day with a quieter coastal day.

Skip if

If you are only passing through, choose a short circuit. The full peninsula walk does not fit casually beside a long transfer.

With kids

Choose according to stamina, conditions and sure-footedness. CapeNature does not recommend the long Point circuit for young children.

Guide details

Give Robberg its own walking day

Robberg lies south of Plettenberg Bay. Give it a walking day rather than treating it as a quick photograph between hotels. The peninsula is a different outing from an afternoon on Plett’s beaches.

Choose Gap, Witsand or Point

CapeNature distinguishes three circuits:

  • Gap Circuit: 2.1 kilometres, the shortest option.
  • Witsand Circuit: 5.5 kilometres, including a dune section.
  • Point Circuit: 9.2 kilometres, more demanding and not recommended for young children.

Check current visitor notices, bring water and suitable walking shoes, and take wind and cliff edges seriously. Distance alone is not a promise of how long your walk will take.

Two or three nights in Plett

Two nights in Plett allow a full walking day; three nights give you a second free day. In poor weather, changing or postponing the walk is more useful than forcing the planned distance. A beach photograph does not establish safe swimming conditions.

Prepare admission and cashless payment

Save the chosen circuit, entrance and booking. Daily budgets are rough per-person figures for two adults sharing a room and car, including food and running costs; add flights and expensive booked excursions separately. Download navigation maps in your map app.

Bring a card or arrange advance booking: Robberg changed to cashless payment in February 2026. Confirm opening hours directly before the visit; the official reserve page contains conflicting hours, so this guide does not give a fixed closing time.
